The 39th World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC) will be held September 21–23, 2016 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Register today to attend the largest energy conference and technology expo held in the U.S. specifically for business, industrial and institutional energy users.
Over the course of the three-day conference, AMO’s Better Plants Program will host a series of panels to discuss key energy management issues such as the value of ISO 50001, onsite generation, water and energy, and smarter data use. DOE will also issue a 2016 Better Plants progress update.
AMO Announces up to $3 Million in Funding to Advance Energy Technologies
This week, DOE’s Advanced Manufacturing Office announced up to $3 million in available funding for the third round of the High Performance Computing for Manufacturing (HPC4Mfg) program. DOE, in partnership with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), plans to select 8–10 projects for this funding and seeks qualified industry partners to participate in a one-year term collaborative project. Selected projects will receive up to $300,000 to support access to supercomputers and experts at the partnering national labs.

PowerAmerica Funding Available for SiC and GaN Power Devices and Circuit Applications
AMO-sponsored PowerAmerica is seeking to fund up to four projects from both industry and academia for a broad range of power electronics applications, including manufacturing of SiC and GaN devices and modules, systems incorporating such devices and modules, as well as power electronic device and circuit education and workforce development.

AMO-Sponsored Cyclotron Road Innovator Recognized as one of MIT’s 35 Innovators Under 35
Kendra Kuhl was recently named one of the MIT Technology Review’s “35 Innovators Under 35” for her work at Opus 12, a startup in the AMO-sponsored Cyclotron Road program. Kendra and her Cyclotron Road team, with tools and resources from Berkeley Laboratory, are developing a small, environmentally friendly reactor which converts carbon dioxide, a common byproduct of power plants, into valuable chemicals and fuels.
