The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to address the educational needs of the next generation of power engineers with particular focus on distributed solar and other distributed generation, storage and demand-response devices that change fundamental properties of the nation’s electrical grid.

Activities associated with the proposed project would include development of a strategic training and evaluation plan; identification of electric industry needs and gaps related to distributed technology; development of curriculum & course materials for academic and professional courses; delivering short-courses on selected critical renewable energy related topics; developing a strategy for consortium self-sustainability; developing and implementing tech transfer and training programs; developing and maintaining communication structures and a website; creating and maintaining student scholars at each partner university; and project management and reporting. The proposed project would be limited exclusively to intellectual, academic, or analytical activities and would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
