The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the Solar Foundation to increase understanding of the solar jobs market, industry needs, and costs and potential savings associated with training; create a model for interested military bases and local training providers to establish or participate in a Solar Ready Vets (SRV) program; and create a self-sustaining framework for greater connection between solar employers, training institutions, workforce investment boards, and trainees.

The proposed project would establish a Solar Jobs Strategy Commission comprised of industry and other stakeholders and convene quarterly meetings to increase the visibility of the Solar Training Network (STN) and SRV program. The project would analyze existing data, gain insights on industry needs, and plan and organize events to engage training providers, trainees, and employers. The project would also conduct outreach activities to increase partnership and program creation between training providers and military bases for SRV by providing a national curriculum and starter-kits to military bases, training providers, and employers. Proposed activities would be limited exclusively to intellectual, academic, or analytical activities. Project participants would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
