Curt Coccodrilli, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Coal and Carbon Management, FE

Curt Coccodrilli is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Coal and Carbon Management in the Office of Fossil Energy (FE). In this role, Curt sets the strategic direction for the Office of Coal and Carbon Management, and leads a team that administers the programs, including technology research, development, and demonstration; analysis; domestic and international engagement; and intergovernmental collaboration.

Curt Coccodrilli grew up on a family farm in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. In 2017, he was appointed by President Trump to serve as State Director for USDA Rural Development in Pennsylvania. He also served as the National Regional Chair for the Northeastern States. He was instrumental in creating partnerships with numerous other Federal agencies and Pennsylvania stakeholders to promote essential programs such as Broadband connectivity, Energy Development, Community Facilities, Business loan guarantees and housing programs. As a member of the USDA Opioid Task Force, Curt hosted the first national opioid roundtable in Pennsylvania. Coccodrilli also Chaired the USDA National Taskforce on Energy and through his leadership, partnerships have evolved which created more effective collaboration across selected federal agencies including a Secretarial level MOU between USDA and DOE. He also has a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for his work on Mineral Rights issues related to the run up to the Marcellus Shale boom. Curt served as the Federal Liaison to the Tri-State Governor’s Shale Council. His passion for Rural Electrification also helped him earn the 2018 Undersecretary’s award for Infrastructure, Partnerships, and Innovation. Curt also was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Rural Affairs. He served for a time as Congressman Dan Meuser’s District Director in the PA 09th. Curt most recently was appointed to serve as a Senior Advisor in the US DOE at the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations.
