Remote Closure Switch for Test Reactor Area (TRA)-786 Output Breaker
CX(s) Applied: B2.5
Date: 41827
Location(s): Idaho
Offices(s): Nuclear Energy

The TRA-786 diesel generator output breaker has a high arc flash calculation that requires the operator to use heavy, cumbersome personal protective equipment (PPE) when closing the breaker. This breaker is located in the doorway of a trailer that is approximately 5 feet off the ground. There is a risk of the operator tripping and falling out of the trailer, or of an arc flash "blowing" the operator out of the trailer. Eliminating this risk by installing a remote closure switch for the breaker, outside of the trailer, is necessary. A second emergency stop button for the generator will also be installed near the remote breaker closure switch.
