WASHINGTON –  The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration announced today it has exercised Option Terms 1 through 5 of Mission Support and Test Services, LLC’s  management and operating contract for the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). MSTS is owned by Honeywell International, Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., and HII Nuclear, Inc.

The exercise of Option Terms 1 through 5 extends the performance of MSTS from Dec. 1, 2022, through Nov. 30, 2027. Exercising Option Terms 1 through 5 is the most advantageous method of fulfilling the mission needs of NNSA considering current price, past performance, and most importantly, the immediate need for continuity of performance during Fiscal Years 2023 through 2028.

The NNSS site is a geographically diverse outdoor testing, training, and evaluation complex situated on approximately 1,360 square miles in Nevada. It safely conducts high-hazard operations, testing, and training in support of NNSA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and other federal agencies.  It provides the government with the capability to return to underground nuclear testing should the President deem it necessary. The facility helps ensure the security of the United States and its allies by supporting the stewardship of the nuclear deterrent, providing emergency response capability and training, and contributing to key nonproliferation and arms control initiatives. NNSS executes unique national-level experiments, supports national security customers through strategic partnerships, manages the legacy of the Cold War nuclear deterrent, and provides long-term environmental stewardship for site missions.

The principal place of performance will be the NNSS in Nye County, Nevada. Work is also conducted at satellite facilities located in North Las Vegas and Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; Andrews Air Force Base, Suitland, Maryland; Santa Barbara, California; support offices for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California; Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and other locations as required.
