DOE/EIS-0572: Kootznoowoo Inc. Thayer Hydroelectric Project; Admiralty Island, Alaska

Summary

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has adopted the U.S. Forest Service’s 2009 Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) (CEQ Number 20090068) for the Angoon Hydroelectric Project Construction and Operation Special-Use-Authorization Thayer Creek Admiralty Island National Monument, Tongass National Forest, AK (Tongass National Forest R10-MB-628), originally filed with EPA on March 11, 2009.

OCED is proposing to authorize the expenditure of federal funding by Kootznoowoo, Inc. (Kootznoowoo) to support the construction and operation of the Thayer Creek Hydroelectric Project located on Admiralty Island National Monument, Alaska. The project would include the construction and operation of a marine barge landing, underground cable, transmission line, access road, and hydroelectric facility.

OCED has reviewed the FEIS and has determined that the FEIS is an adequate statement and OCED’s action is substantially similar to that analyzed in the FEIS pursuant to 40 CFR § 1506.3. OCED was not a cooperating agency on the original EIS. OCED has prepared and issued a Record of Decision.
