Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) prepared (and submitted to the Federal Highway Administration [FHWA]) this Final Environmental Assessment (EA) for the BNSF, Bridgeport project (DOE/EA-2288) to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of NDOT's to construct a viaduct where U.S. Highway 26 (US-26) / Nebraska Highway 92 (N-92) crosses the BNSF Railway's (BNSF) railroad tracks in Bridgeport, Morrill County, Nebraska. This federal-aid project is led by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as the lead federal agency, with NDOT serving as the Project sponsor and Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) as a cooperating agency.
The proposed viaduct would replace the existing at-grade crossing west of the intersection of Recreation Road and 5th Street. The purpose of the proposed Project is to:
- Eliminate conflicts between trains and vehicles at the existing at-grade BNSF railroad crossing.
- Reduce vehicular delays at the US-26/N-92 crossing of the BNSF railroad tracks.
- Reduce crash costs associated with US-62/N-92 crossing of the BNSF railroad tracks.
