Fivemile Creek Hydroelectric Project; Chitina, Alaska

The U.S. Department of Energy is relying upon an environmental assessment (EA) prepared by the Denali Commission (DC) for the Fivemile Creek Hydroelectric Project in Chitina, Alaska (DOE/EA-2278). This EA assesses the potential impacts of two proposed alternatives: a "No Action" alternative and the "Proposed Action" to complete (by means of federal funding) construction and operation activities associated with a small-scale hydroelectric project on Fivemile Creek designed to supply renewable energy to the community of Chitina, Alaska, which currently is relying on diesel for 100 percent of their electrical production. Once constructed, the local utility, Chitina Electric, Inc. (CEI), would own and operate the project.
