This Fourth Amended Determination follows the approval of additional funding, extended period of performance, a new project team member, and additional project milestones to support the project team's small-scale research and development activities to further advance a chip-level direct two-phase impingement jet cooling solution to enhance overall thermal performance while reducing pumping power under the Cooling Operations Optimized for Leaps in Energy, Reliability, and Carbon Hyperefficiency for Information Processing Systems Program (COOLERCHIPS) Program.

August 31, 2026This Fourth Amended Determination follows the approval of additional funding, extended period of performance, a new project team member, and additional project milestones to support the project team's small-scale research and development activities to further advance a chip-level direct two-phase impingement jet cooling solution to enhance overall thermal performance while reducing pumping power under the Cooling Operations Optimized for Leaps in Energy, Reliability, and Carbon Hyperefficiency for Information Processing Systems Program (COOLERCHIPS) Program. Specifically, the project team will (1) test and validate system to meet performance requirements, (2) conduct further testing for long-term operation, durability, and performance, (3) optimize design based on testing outcomes, (4) conduct testing to validate longer-term operation, durability, and performance, and (5) conduct a techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment for next phase of development. If successful, this project would reduce total cooling energy expenditure, water use, and overall cost for cooling, ultimately improving energy efficiency and reducing dependence on foreign energy sources, thereby increasing U.S. energy security.
