June 25, 2026The scope of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory North Campus Utility Corridor Project is to support the existing Fire Water and City Water utility services to the North Campus area, which are currently supplied by a looped system that provides redundant service from two directions in the event of a localized system failure.
Separately, the existing Natural Gas supply for the North Campus area is currently provided by two radial feeds. The western line follows the Fire Water and City Water alignment along the roadway from the new Component Test Complex (CTC) towards the CY Building. The eastern line follows the Fire Water and City Water outside of the Limited Access Area (LAA) through the parking lots, terminating at the SVTF expansion. The existing utilities that run through the project area need to be temporarily taken out of service to maintain constant utility service to the North Campus. The existing eastern utility alignment was originally established to provide utility services to the C Area. Some additional modifications to the Fire Water and City Water systems east of the CTC will be required to create the looped systems.
