Funding will support the project team's small-scale research and development of an advanced ultra-conductive carbon aluminum composite (UCAC) cable with superior electrical and mechanical properties, applicable to electrical power transmission and distribution, including utility-scale infrastructure, renewable energy integration projects, and the development and modernization of grid systems. Specifically, the project team will (1) develop and refine UCAC materials and composition, (2) test and evaluate performance of UCAC composition for transmission capabilities, (3) identify final UCAC materials and composition, (4) develop, test, and evaluate final UCAC cable composition, (5) develop, fabricate, test, and validate performance of full-scale UCAC cables to meet industry standards and performance metrics.
