January 13, 2025Powerex Corp. has applied for renewed authorization to transmit electric energy from the United States to Canada pursuant to section 202(e) of the Federal Power Act (FPA).
Powerex Corp. sells power at wholesale from a portfolio of various resources acquired from sellers within both the U.S. and Canada and states it has market-based rate authority granted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Powerex Corp. asserts that it has no native load obligations and that any power purchased would be surplus, and thus its exports would not impair the sufficiency of electric supply or impede or tend to impede the coordination in the public interest of facilities subject to the jurisdiction of FERC. The existing international transmission facilities to be utilized by Powerex Corp. have been previously authorized by Presidential Permits issued pursuant to Executive Order 10485, as amended, and are appropriate for open access transmission by third parties.
