The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) proposes to investigate the use of embedded digital components for safety-related I &C systems that can be demonstrated to contain no additional capabilities or characteristics other than that specially required for the functional objectives. These inflexible devices would have no hidden fabrication or infrastructure to complicate straightforward analysis and validation.
