The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to the Department of Environmental Control in Cook County, Illinois to define the means necessary to develop project-ready, community-based solar systems suitable for renters, multifamily/condo housing units and other non-PV capable buildings.
The proposed activities include a review of inventories of owned or managed lands and screening for their appropriateness for community/shared solar. This project seeks to develop the appropriate ownership and management model for each site in order to illustrate different size systems in various communities, together with alternative project, ownership and financial structures. The proposed project would be limited exclusively to intellectual, academic, or analytical activities and would use no physical materials beyond basic office supplies and software.
