An experimental system has been designed to measure the changes to surfaces caused by light illumination.  Specifically, a quartz crystal microbalance will be used to detect very small quantities of matter that absorb and desorb from a surface.  The quartz crystal microbalance system is attached to a ConFlat flange and will be mounted on a gas flow reactor.  An optical window will allow illumination of the quartz crystal microbalance crystal surface.  Different non-laser sources will be used to illuminate the surface, including LEDs, with wavelengths from 200 - 1100 nm.
