GreenFire Energy would use United States Department of Energy grant funds to identify and characterize the key uncertainties in the modeling and design of carbon dioxide-based Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), then install a simplified prototype system to obtain the field data necessary for realistic cost and performance estimation of commercial scale carbon dioxide-EGS systems. Field portions of the project would occur on Arizona State Lands at the Saint Johns Dome formation near Springerville, Arizona.
