Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. 1) Train staff on energy codes; 2) install solar hot water heaters in fire stations (built between 1959 and 1995) and the Danny Jones Recreation Center (1950); 3) retrofit intersection lights with light emitting diode (LED) lighting; 4) purchase infrared camera to allow inspectors to work with building owners to identify locations of energy leaks; 5) purchase hybrid vehicles; 6) install tankless water heaters in three community centers; 7) distribute education materials to public; 8) retrofit traffic lights to LED lighting; 9) transition lighting to LED lighting at the Fire Museum, City Hall, and other city-owned buildings; 10) retrofit the Train Museum (1962) with new windows, doors, insulation, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system; 11) low-income residential air conditioning replacement program; 12) develop energy efficiency and conservation strategy; 13) energy efficiency residential retrofits to include weatherizing low-income homes; 14) installation at the Greenhouse Facility several sustainable and energy efficient technology demonstrations including air sealing and insulation demonstrations, technologies to conserve and recycle water, solar tubes and efficient LED lighting packages, solar hot water heating, energy star qualified appliances, and other demonstrations; 15) energy efficient retrofits to the Northwoods Gymnasium (1986); 16) energy efficient retrofits to the Ferndale Gymnasium (1980) including new HVAC system and removal of current systems, installation of energy efficient windows, doors, and hot water heater; and 17) technical consultant services to conduct annual audits.
