HALEU Enrichment Services

Background

HALEU is uranium enriched between 5 and 19.75 percent, which increases the amount of fissile material to make the fuel more efficient. The United States currently has limited commercial supplies of HALEU enrichment services available to support the deployment of advanced reactors.

Program Overview

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) signed contracts with four companies for HALEU enrichment that allows them to bid on future work. The Department plans to allocate $2.7 billion to develop LEU and high-assay low-enriched uranium infrastructure capabilities. By investing in domestic enrichment, the DOE is fostering job growth, enhancing national security, and accelerating the growth of the American nuclear renaissance.
