Remediation at the Weldon Spring Site was conducted in accordance with Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) regulations. The Weldon Spring Site was transferred to the Office of Legacy Management (LM) in 2003. LM conducts long-term surveillance and maintenance at the site which includes routine inspections, site maintenance, records-related activities, stakeholder support, and operation of an Interpretive Center. Continuing this legacy of service, LM’s Weldon Spring Site in Missouri serves as a community asset, protecting and conserving the environment. The Weldon Spring Site Interpretive Center offers a window to the past and demonstrates the U.S. Department of Energy’s commitment to the future. Exhibits address the history of the Weldon Spring area, the site’s contributions to World War II and the Cold War, cleanup, and continuing long-term stewardship. The interpretive center provides educational programs, tours, research opportunities, and meeting rooms for public use. The surrounding gardens, prairie, trails, and disposal cell viewing platform are open to the public to explore.
