DOE Office of Legacy Management took responsibility for the Utah, Utah, Site in 2019. The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission conducted site activities under the Plowshare Program during the late 1960s. The program aimed to use nuclear explosives for peaceful purposes. One exploratory well was drilled onsite in 1969 to assess the geology and hydrology. Although the site was deemed suitable for a nuclear test, the test was cancelled, and nuclear testing never occurred at this site. The well was plugged and abandoned by LM in 2020. LM performs minor maintenance and keeps records and histories for these sites. For more information about the Utah site, view the fact sheet.
