The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with Western Area Power Administration, is presenting a webinar titled, “Tribal Business Structures for Financing Projects” on Wednesday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time. The webinar will highlight the six different business structures that Indian tribes and tribally owned businesses can use to diversify their economic portfolio.

Speakers will go over the advantages and disadvantages of the different business structures, including how to select the best structure to fit a tribe’s goals and existing codes and laws. Representatives from the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians in San Jacinto, California, will talk through the business structure for the Tribe’s 1-megawatt solar project, which is co-funded by a DOE grant. And attendees will get information about grant and loan funding available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Utilities Service.

Speakers include:

  • Sarai Geary, Program Manager, Office of Indian Energy
  • Doug MacCourt, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of Indian Energy
  • Jon Claffey, Policy Advisor, USDA Rural Utilities Service
