Statement of Gregory H. Friedman, Inspector General Department of Energy
Request to testify on the review conducted by the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Energy’s (Energy’s) export licensing process for dual-use and munitions commodities. Our review was part of an interagency effort involving the Inspectors General of the Departments of Commerce, Defense, Energy, State, and Treasury and the Central Intelligence Agency. The interagency review was initiated following receipt of an August 26, 1998, letter from the Chairman, requesting that the Inspectors General update and expand on a 1993 interagency report concerning the export licensing process for dual-use and munitions commodities.
