The Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office’s (HGEO’s) Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security ensures that robust safety, security, environmental, quality assurance, continuity and emergency management programs are implemented. These programs are vital for the success and well-being of HGEO's facilities and the surrounding communities. Excellent performance in these areas is crucial for HGEO to not only meet, but surpass its mission of addressing challenges in national energy security and environmental initiatives. To fulfill this mission, HGEO's subject matter experts are dedicated to the execution and continuous improvement of all its programs.

The Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security supports HGEO’s goals through the following objective:

  • Strategically align, safeguard and optimize resources in support of the HGEO mission.

Key Functions

  • Ensures a safe and hazard-free workplace 
  • Provides environment, health, safety, security and emergency management compliance oversight and corrective-action accountability
  • Promotes robust safeguards and security protocol integration to protect personnel, information and assets, and mission success
  • Develops and manages quality assurance
  • Leads emergency management and continuity readiness
