The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) was established in 2007 to fund the development and deployment of transformational energy technologies in the United States. ARPA-E’s mission is to decrease our nation’s dependence on foreign energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency across the board, and maintain or reestablish U.S. scientific leadership in the energy sector. The Office of the Chief Counsel works with the Office of General Counsel to help ARPA-E accomplish its mission. The Office of Chief Counsel advises on every aspect of ARPA-E’s operations, including the hiring of scientific and other personnel, the drafting of funding opportunity announcements, and the negotiation of financial assistance agreements, among other issues.
