DOE ordered ABB, Inc. to pay a $86,300 civil penalty after finding ABB had manufactured and distributed in commerce in the U.S. multiple units of various design numbers of liquid-immersed distribution transformers which do not meet the applicable energy conservation standard.  The Order adopted a Compromise Agreement, which reflected settlement terms between DOE and ABB.

On that same date, December 22, 2016, DOE determined that various design numbers of liquid-immersed distribution transformers were noncompliant based on self-reporting from ABB.  ABB was required to immediately notify each person (or company) to whom ABB distributed the noncompliant products that the products do not meet Federal standards.  In addition, ABB provided to DOE documents and records showing the number of units ABB distributed and to whom.
