DOE ordered Hefei Midea Laundry Appliance Co. Ltd. ("Midea") to pay a $2,300,000 civil penalty after Midea had manufactured and distributed in commerce in the U.S. multiple units for (2018-SEW-20002) and (2018-SEW-20003) of the noncompliant Magic Chef brand clothes washer basic models numbers MCSTCW16W2 and MCSTCW21W2. The Order adopted a Compromise Agreement, which reflected settlement terms between DOE and Midea.

On March 28, 2018, DOE issued a Notice of Noncompliance Determination to Midea finding that the Magic Chef brand clothes washer basic models numbers MCSTCW16W2 and MCSTCW21W2 does not comply with applicable energy conservation standards based on DOE testing. Midea provided DOE records showing the number of units Midea distributed.
