John Lassek is the Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, where he oversees the Offices of Coal, Oil and Gas, and Geothermal.
Mr. Lassek brings more than 30 years of oil and gas industry experience spanning resource development, engineering, operations, and technology development. He has held operator and service-company roles in the United States and internationally. His experience spans conventional and unconventional resources.
Before joining DOE, he served as Global Senior Completions Advisor at Hess Corporation. He previously held senior technical roles with Newfield Exploration, Encana, and Ovintiv. He began his career at Schlumberger in domestic and international operations before moving into technology development and engineering leadership.
Over his career, Mr. Lassek has led the development, commercialization, and field deployment of new oilfield technologies and holds 13 oilfield-related patents. He earned a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
