Public Scoping Period at the Energy Technology Engineering Center

to

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) is extending the public scoping period and rescheduling the public scoping meetings for the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) Area IV Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS).

DOE has been closely monitoring the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area and would like the community to have additional time to participate in the SEIS process. While there is currently no threat to the SSFL site, in consideration of the devastating impacts of the wildfires, DOE is extending the public scoping period an additional 30 days and rescheduling the public scoping meetings to better align with the new scoping period.

The Notice of Intent (89 FR 105555) originally initiated a 60-day public scoping period. With the 30-day extension, the public scoping period will now close on March 27, 2025. The rescheduled public scoping meetings will be on March 6, 2025, (virtual) and March 18, 2025 (in-person/open house). Details to participate are below.

The rescheduled public scoping meetings will give the community more of a chance to learn about the proposed alternatives for soil cleanup at SSFL, ask questions, and share ideas. Community feedback will help DOE with proposing final, implementable cleanup plans at SSFL.
