RICHLAND, Wash. – Russell Jim, a Yakama Nation Tribal Elder who has worked for years on behalf of tribal interests at the Hanford Site, received an honorary doctorate in humanities from Heritage University in Toppenish, Washington, June 5. Jim, shown here with his wife, Bobby, was honored “as a traditional knowledge scholar, cultural guardian, guide and mentor, teacher and protector,” according to the university. Since the early 1980s, Jim has served as project manager for the Yakama Nation environmental restoration and waste management program.
