EM Extends Statement of Intent With Canada’s Nuclear Cleanup Program

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – EM Assistant Secretary Anne White and Richard Sexton, president and CEO of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL), signed a five-year extension to a Statement of Intent (SOI) that allows EM and Canada’s nuclear cleanup program to exchange information on used fuel and radioactive waste management, decommissioning, and environmental restoration. “The U.S.-Canada relationship is important to the success of establishing an environmental management agenda that focuses on the best technology and practices,” White said. “My office is committed to enhancing and expanding this relationship in the coming months and years.” EM and AECL have collaborated successfully in the areas of tank waste processing, soils and groundwater, deactivation and decommissioning, and nuclear materials.
