Independent Audit of the 2016 Compliance Order on Consent

On July 14, 2026, a public scoping meeting will be conducted for an independent audit of the 2016 Compliance Order on Consent (Consent Order) for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The Consent Order is between the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). It is the principal regulatory document governing legacy environmental cleanup at LANL.

NMED and DOE selected Sundance Consultants, LLC to conduct a third-party audit to examine the effectiveness of the Consent Order. The audit will evaluate the performance of NMED and DOE under the Consent Order, including whether they are adhering to its general purposes and principles. More information about the audit is available in Appendix G of the Consent Order. 

Purpose: The purpose of this meeting is to hear from the public about topics, questions, or concerns that should be considered during the review. Comments received during the meeting will help Sundance develop the audit lines of inquiry.
