The DOE Safety and Health Program supports line management and contractors through the development and dissemination of policy, guidance, and technical expertise to assistance in implementation of the policies. These programs and resources assist in recognizing and responding to safety and health concerns, focus on value-added activities, and conserve Departmental resources.
The FEOSH program provides for the safety and health of DOE Federal employees and maintains a strong partnership with Departmental FEOSH Programs, labor organizations, and other Federal Agencies.
The Worker Safety and Health Program provides the requirements for DOE contractor safety and health programs.
- Pressure Safety
EHSS-11 obtained a pressure safety subject matter expert to compare the European Standards (EN) for pressure vessels (EN 13445) and pressure piping (EN 13480) to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Codes for pressure vessels (ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (B&PVC) Section VIII) and process piping (ASME B31.3) to determine if they are as safe and healthful. The two reports detail the comparison and include recommendations when the EN Standard is not as protective as the ASME Code. - Construction
EHSS-11 published a DOE Construction Contractor Safety White Paper that documents their understanding of the challenges associated with implementing DOE-specific safety and health expectations for construction projects. The goal is that this information and these perspectives will be used as a catalyst for discussion with the DOE community to develop actionable solutions.
