- Base model - Values represent a 1,000,000 Btu/hour gas-fired, hot-water boiler operated for 1,500 full-load hours per year with a thermal efficiency of 80%. The performance of this standard unit is based on ASHRAE 90.1-2007.
- Thermal efficiency (Et) - Represents a boiler's energy output divided by energy input as defined by ANSI Z21.13. A boiler's thermal efficiency rating should be used to determine compliance with Federal procurement requirements.
- Default values - The values pre-loaded into the calculator represent average operating conditions in the Federal sector.
- U.S. Federal average gas price - $/therm
- U.S. Federal average fuel oil price - $/gallon
- Price trends and discount rate - Future electricity price trends and a discount rate of 3.2% are based on Federal guidelines.
- Lifetime energy costs - Values represent the sum of the discounted value of annual energy costs, based on an assumed boiler life of 25 years.
- Condensing boiler annual energy use - Adjusted for an assumed boiler operation of 50% condensing mode versus 50% noncondensing mode.
