Project Objective

This project will develop a high-efficacy, high-power LED emitter enabled by patterned sapphire substrate flip-chip architecture, die development to include novel contact design, phosphors with reduced bandwidth, and new optical materials for light extraction from the die.

Project Impact

This project is using an overall systems engineering approach to increase the efficiency and stability of LED lighting. Various approaches that have been developed are being combined and optimized to bring down cost and improve performance.
