Automatic Commercial Ice Makers

As defined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), “automatic commercial ice maker” means a factory-made assembly (not necessarily shipped in one package) that—

  1. Consists of a condensing unit and ice-making section operating as an integrated unit, with means for making and harvesting ice; and
  2. May include means for storing ice, dispensing ice, or storing and dispensing ice.

Manufacturers have been required to comply with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) energy conservation standards for cube type automatic commercial ice makers with harvest capacities between 50 and 2,500 pounds of ice per 24-hour period since 2010.
