SAVE THE DATE: Grid Modernization Initiative Peer Review — September 4–7

DOE’s Grid Modernization Initiative (GMI), a DOE-wide collaboration to renovate the reliable power grid, will hold a peer review on September 4–7, 2018, at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Organizers of the event will provide an overview of 13 GMI programs, including seven recently awarded Resilient Distribution Systems projects, and share lessons learned and best practices.

Four U.S. Firms Win 2018 Energy Management Insight Awards

DOE recognizes four U.S. companies selected to receive the Clean Energy Ministerial’s 2018 Energy Management Insight Awards: Google, Hilton, JW Marriott, and Nissan North America. These awards celebrate leading organizations that use the global ISO 50001 energy management system standard to attain enduring improvement in energy performance.

3D Printing Technology Front and Center at Supercomputing Announcement

On June 8, 2018, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry dedicated the world’s fastest and smartest scientific supercomputer, Summit, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. While Summit was the star of the show, other technologies from ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) were front and center. Every component of the podium, except for the microphone and wiring, that the Secretary spoke from was 3D-printed using technology developed at the MDF.
