Hey rising 6th – 12th graders in New Mexico! Make sure you spread the word that registration is open now for Sandia National Laboratories Hands-On Minds-On Technologies (HMTech) Summer Science Program.

You’ll want to sign up today for this free Saturday STEM immersion program, bringing you basic fundamentals in:

  • Anatomy
  • Chemistry
  • Everyday STEM
  • Fractals
  • Game design with Java
  • Python programming
  • Money matters 101
  • NASCAR
  • Engineering
  • Renewable energy
  • Robotics
  • Website design with HTML and CSS
  • And more!

Hands-On Minds-On Technologies is an exciting educational supplement targeting African American middle and high school students. Students of all races and ethnicities are welcome to participate and are encouraged to enroll. Sandia’s Community Involvement and Black Leadership Committee sponsor the program, which is designed to spark students’ interest in pursuing careers in science, technology, math, and engineering. Various Sandia National Laboratories employees and community members volunteer to develop and teach hands-on classes for the HMTech Summer Science Program.

Classes will run on Saturdays in June, and the experience caps off with a showcase for parents and guardians to see the students’ work & have lunch together.

AnneMarie Horowitz is the Chief of Staff for the Arctic Energy Office. She joined the Arctic Energy Office in May 2023. AnneMarie has been with the Energy Department since 2010, and was previously on the digital team of the Office of Public Affairs, where she managed digital projects and internal employee communications efforts. AnneMarie was the Digital Communications Manager from March 2023 - September 2023 for the Department of Health and Human Affairs' Public Education Campaign, We Can Do This, to share information about the COVID vaccine.

From 2015 - 2017 she served as the Special Advisor on workforce issues for Deputy Secretary of Energy Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall. She has also previously worked in the Under Secretary for Management and Performance and in the Office of Minority Economic Impact. 

AnneMarie has a BA in Political Science from the University of Portland and a Masters of Government from Johns Hopkins University.
