Steve Clemons

Steve Clemons is the acting portfolio federal project director for the environmental cleanup and nuclear operations at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. 

Clemons oversees the planning and execution of environmental cleanup including deactivation and demolition of excess contaminated facilities and the removal of nuclear and transuranic waste from storage at ORNL. He also leads a diverse, integrated project team that works in partnership with federal and state regulators responsible for investigating and making cleanup decisions at ORNL. He also leads an integrated team for the execution of the nuclear operations at ORNL, which includes low-level liquid waste, process water, and gaseous waste operations as well as the operation of the Transuranic Waste Processing Center.  

Previously, Clemons served as a federal project director for OREM. He has more than 14 years of combined environmental cleanup and management experience operating across the Environmental Management complex within DOE. 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in environmental engineering with a focus in hydrologic sciences from the University of Florida.  

He lives in Lenoir City with his three dogs, a German shepherd, golden retriever, and an Australian shepherd.
