The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Silevo, Inc. to adapt a Generation 8.5, thin-film, manufacturing toolset originally developed for the LCD industry thereby cutting the pre-wafer equipment cost for plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and significantly reducing the total capital-cost, cost-of-junction Silicon Photovoltaic (PV) cells.
