The seismic capacity for the equipment class of Temperature Sensors (TS) may be based on earthquake experience data. This equipment class includes thermocouples and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) that measure fluid temperature and typically are mounted within or on piping or tanks. Thermocouples are probes consisting of two dissimilar metal wires routed through a protective sleeve that produce a voltage output proportional to the difference in temperature between the hot junction and the lead wires (cold junction).
