SNL’s Understanding a Stratigraphic Hydrothermal Resource – Geophysical Imaging at Steptoe Valley, Nevada project used both established and novel geophysical imaging techniques to evaluate a stratigraphic (i.e., sedimentary-hosted) system. Part of the Hidden Systems initiative, the team’s work sought efficient and cost-effective methods to reduce uncertainty and mitigate risk during early phases of geothermal exploration.
The project demonstrated the effectiveness of geophysical imaging in improving subsurface characterization for stratigraphic reservoirs. Coupled with geologic and geochemical studies, the approach provides a foundation for conceptual modeling and initial reservoir analyses, guiding future exploration.
