RICHLAND, Wash. — The Hanford Site's annual emergency preparedness field exercise put emergency responders to the test with a challenging scenario involving a vehicle accident at the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant where several “victims” were either exposed to anhydrous ammonia or a localized release of contamination.
The emergency management and preparedness team with Hanford Mission Integration Solutions spent months crafting the scenario, objectives, guidelines, and timeline. They recruited personnel to act in the various emergency response roles they’ve been trained in, as well as controllers, evaluators and observers who ensured the response followed Hanford’s emergency plan and procedures.
The exercise helps evaluate the readiness and coordination of Hanford's Emergency Response organization and underscores the Hanford Site's commitment to safety, preparedness, and innovation in protecting the workforce and community.
