November 10, 2025To celebrate Veterans Day, EM highlights former service members who have joined EM on their journey in civilian work-life.
Name, and what do you do at EM?
My name is Marcia Fultz. I am the procurement director at the Portsmouth Paducah Project Office.
Tell us about your military journey — branch, years served and duty stations:
I served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps, and was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, and Fort Benning, Georgia, from 1986 to 1989. After 1989, I served in the U.S. Army National Guard/Reserves from 1989 to 2000.
Most memorable event/moment during your service?
My most memorable time was acting as the transportation officer for the 36th Engineer Group and deploying and redeploying them to Costa Rica.
How has your military service helped prepare you for the job you do in EM?
The challenges I faced as a logistics officer taught me how to multitask in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
When did you begin working for EM and what got you interested in the cleanup mission?
I started working for EM at the Savannah River Site in January of 2009 and transferred to the Portsmouth Paducah Project Office in 2015. I was working for the Department of the Army at Fort Gordon when DOE had an opening at Savannah River. Savannah River was closer to my house and had an interesting mission. I wanted to do something new and different, so I applied to DOE.
