Five National Labs were selected from the Office of Electricity's lab call to execute a structured review of energy storage technologies. These labs will advance Energy Storage Grand Challenge goals by evaluating the technology, manufacturing, and adoption readiness to identify trends across the technologies reviewed, for a prescribed set of use cases, evaluated against an established criteria list. This lab call, issued on December 12, 2023, was only open to DOE National Labs. Click here to read the lab call.

After careful review, the Office of Electricity selected the following project team: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Idaho National Laboratory (INL), National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). The work performed under this lab call will provide DOE with insights into the current energy storage landscape and may also reveal critical data and knowledge gaps in the energy storage technology and application landscape.
