About the Project

A family in Columbus, Ohio, reached out to the Weatherization Assistance Program, and through the upgrades they received they were able to reduce their energy consumption by 60%.

Challenge

The Wood family was experiencing high energy bills and uncomfortable indoor temperatures in their home. To keep the indoor air temperature comfortable in winter, they supplemented their central heating system with electric space heaters, which led to even higher electricity bills.

Solution

The Weatherization Assistance Program invested $9,700 in the Woods’ home to provide attic insulation, hot water heater improvements, air sealing, and ventilation to ensure safe indoor air quality.

Positive Impact

The family expected to see utility bills reduced from $341 per month to $130 per month as a result of weatherization—a 60% reduction. The upgrades also improved the comfort of the home, especially the upstairs rooms, in the summer and winter months.
