Lead Performer: Energy Americas, LLC – Boonville, MO
DOE Total Funding: $162,900
Project Term: June 28, 2021 – February 28, 2022
Funding Type: Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 1
Project Objective
This project will create a sensor-driven environmental control system, which incorporates smart control and waste heat energy recovery, to maintain an ideal environment for indoor poultry farms. Energy Americas, LLC will refine the smart control system’s algorithm for poultry farming applications, including integrating models of poultry health and well-being. They will also develop a mobile platform to carry sensors throughout the building space.
Project Impact
The project's success will result in a new climate control system that can help American poultry farmers produce primer chicken meat and egg with about 50% lesser heating fuel consumption. Raising chickens in a clean and comfortable environment with lower carbon dioxide and ammonia can support antibiotic-free production and a higher standard of animal welfare.
