The State Energy Program (SEP) provides formula grants and technical assistance to all 50 states, five United States Territories, and the District of Columbia. States use SEP funding to advance and strengthen energy infrastructure, increase economic growth and competitiveness, bolster energy security-related initiatives, strengthen reliability of the energy grid, support the energy workforce, and reduce energy costs through a wide range of activities. SEP funding and technical assistance also enhance energy security through development and enhancement of energy emergency and security plans, as well as energy emergency exercises.
