The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to provide federal funding to Giner, Inc. for the design, development, fabrication, and testing of oxidation-resistant alkaline membrane/ionomer and corrosion-resistant catalysts to enable reversible Alkaline Membrane Fuel Cells (AMFCs) for stationary energy storage. A membrane electrode assembly (MEA) fabrication process would be developed and performance of the reversible AMFCs would be evaluated as part of the project. Project activities would occur at Giner's research and development facility in Newton, MA; the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO; The State University of New York (SUNY) in Buffalo, NY; and University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. Any work proposed to be conducted at a federal facility may be subject to additional NEPA review by the cognizant federal official and must meet the applicable health and safety requirements of the facility.
