May 29, 2018Environmental Compliance and Area Completion Projects has replaced active soil vapor extraction with solar-powered MicroBlowers for the treatment of solvents in the vadose zone at the A-Area Miscellaneous Rubble Pile. In order to garner regulatory approval to phase down from active to passive soil vapor extraction, Environmental Compliance and Area Completion Projects made a commitment to advance strategically located soil bores to sample ash and soil, for the purpose of establishing how much volatile organic constituents concentrations declined during the operation of the active soil vapor extraction system. The approved Sampling and Analysis Plan calls for 16 bores down to a depth of 13 feet below the vegetative cover, reaching 1 foot below the native soil under the potential source material.
